It’s crazy how easily we can conjure up an image in our minds. You can say a word and immediately an image is formed. You say nerd and your mind creates images of funny looking dudes with glasses, you say schoolies and you get an image of mayhem, drunkenness and PARTIES!!, you say apple and your mind straight away takes you to the iPhone … you get the picture. And the image you get can be fuelled from past experience, years of study, media, friends, family, misconceptions and misunderstandings and obviously an understanding of what it actually is.
It’s funny when we go into schools talking about Jesus so many young people are shocked at how we look different to what they thought a Christian would look like, how we speak different, how we play music that isn’t what they would call ‘kum ba ya’ music. It’s a constant surprise to them!
While striving for the title ‘cool Christian’ is not real high on our to-do list, we do see a similar pattern to the way people view God. As soon as I said God I’m sure an image came into your mind, whether a good image or a negative one, something popped up!
In the bible it says Jesus is the image of the invisible God. The reality is for us today even Jesus has an element of invisibility. I actually believe that so many of us have a warped view of God, who He is and what He thinks of you have been twisted until deformed. In many cases this warped view turns people away from getting to know God!
So how do we get a true picture of what God is really like?
Welcome to the purpose of this blog >> an invisible image …
