Dust (Part 1)

If you’ve seen us in your school you would have noticed in our video clips we ask the question Is Jesus a Hero? In the clip we get mixed responses but I want to talk about those who responded yes to the question.

I believe if you are in a place to say Jesus is a hero a full stop should not be next but another question immediately follows …

Yeah I think Jesus is a Hero, so now what?

In ancient Jewish culture there was a saying : Cover yourself with the dust of your rabbi’s feet.

A rabbi would walk from town to town teaching about how to live and calling people back to God and he would have a close band of followers known as his disciples. They would be following close behind him and by the end of the day they would be covered in the dust from his feet. (A great book to read is Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell that touches on this concept) For us in the band we call ourselves followers of Jesus and it is in this context we say it.

If you think about your life; you may follow people you believe in, those that inspire you, people that have something that you admire.

Have you ever thought about following Jesus?

From the moment I decided to follow Jesus mystery happened. It was like my heart bursted out of my chest with love for others. Words aren’t cheap anymore, they demand action. Relationships aren’t a one way ‘get all you can’ frenzy but a selfless, serving love experience.

When Jesus walked the earth he invited people to follow him. We read in the bible in Mark, Jesus beginning to get his crew around him. He approaches them with the simple yet powerful proposition; Come follow me.  And I believe this is the answer to the question I posed earlier, Jesus invites you with these words …

         Come, follow me.
